Derby Grammar School has a very clear purpose:  to combine intellectual challenge with a real breadth of experiences beyond the classroom.  The result is an 'education for life' which not only enables pupils to achieve excellent academic results, but helps them to develop a passion for learning that will stay with them through school life and beyond.

The School comprises a Junior School (Years 3 to 6), Senior School (Years 7 to 11) and co-educational Sixth Form (Years 12 to 13) each with their own identity but working together within the School grounds.  The Junior School is in the enviable position of benefitting from the extensive facilities available in the Senior School, and pupils from Year 3 to 13 happily share the same corridors and outdoor areas, nurturing a sense of unity and a vibrant 'family' atmosphere.
