Derby Grammar Junior School assembly this morning focused on achievements in May – and it was jam-packed full of certificates, badges and trophies, and lots of smiling faces!

Sam and Danny were both recognised for things they’d done outside school. Danny played in a touch rugby tournament alongside adult players, and with potential England players. Sam travelled to Holland for a tournament with his Mickleover football club – and they ended up being triumphant winners, with Sam scoring an amazing 11 goals.

Matthew was recognised for his outstanding topic work on Greece. His flyer and poster were truly brilliant.

George, Dhruv, Cameron and Leo were all awarded their pen licences.

We then moved on to subject achievement awards. Pupils who achieved top marks in various activities including reading comprehension, geography, ancient greeks and forces in action all won certificates.

Cycle Derby were in School earlier in May to work with Y6 on Bikeability Level 2 and with Y5 on Bikeability Level 1. Today, all boys received their certificates and badges.

Always a topic of great excitement were the certificates awarded for achievement of honour points, which count towards house point totals. Five of our pupils were awarded Distinction certificates as they have each achieved 150 honour points.

We also celebrated the winning designs for our Buddy Bench and friendship stops. Well done Lucas for the winning Buddy Bench design as chosen by School Council. They are all now in production so we will soon be seeing the bench and friendship stops on the playground.

Finally, a special mention must go to our Y5 class who have been working on a topic about the Grand Canyon. As part of this they each wrote a poem and drew a picture, and Mrs Hamilton sent them to Blue Peter. Blue Peter have written back to each of them and they all now have their own Blue Peter badge and certificate, and are eagerly awaiting their pass which enables them free entry in to attractions around the UK.
