Derby Grammar School pupils Elliot Butterworth and Arvin Suddhi are celebrating after achieving six A* grades and three grade 9s each in their GCSE examinations.

Elliot, from Etwall, said “All the nervous energy I’ve built up over the past few weeks has suddenly disappeared! Since Christmas I’ve spent most weekends revising, gradually building up as we got closer to the exam dates.”

Arvin added: “I am speechless, I put in such a lot of work and extra hours studying, especially in English Literature, but the results are definitely worth it.”

Both enjoy the science subjects. Arvin’s favourite is biology whilst Elliot favours physics. Earlier this year he travelled to the Royal Society in London to collect a Gold award for his entry in the British Physics Olympiad. With 4000 entrants, only the top 10 in the country are invited to London.

Acting Head, Lesley Reynolds, said: “Our pupils have achieved outstanding success in this year’s GCSE examinations with 72% of all passes being at A*, A or numerical equivalent. But Elliot and Arvin’s results in particular are truly inspiring and show what can be achieved with hard work, dedication and unfailing support from teachers.”

Both Elliot and Arvin are joining Derby Grammar School Sixth Form in September.
