As part of their Religious Studies lesson, Year 5 recently visited the Derby Jamia Mosque in Normanton with Mrs Sly, Head of Junior School.
Arranged through the Open Centre, Nahida hosted the group, taking them into the washroom and prayer room. Year 5 are currently working on their topic of Muhammad (pbuh), which will be followed by Muslim belief and practice. The visit to the mosque has consolidated their learning.
The boys asked lots of questions, and a great discussion was had with Nahida.
Mrs Sly said: “Throughout Junior School the pupils learn about six religons – Hinduism, Sikhism, Buddhism, Judaism, Islam and Christianity. It teaches the boys tolerance and understanding of other faiths.”
