Twelve Derby Grammar School Sixth Formers took part in the European Youth Parliament East Midlands Regional Forum in March at Warwick University.

Joining other Sixth Formers from across the region, our students operated as two teams of six. Between them they formed the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE) and the Committee on Legal Affairs (JURI).

Over the course of the day they took part in intense and detailed debates on Permanent Structured Cooperation (PESCO) and a possible EU army; Spain and Catalonia; human rights in the Chechen Republic; the EU and the UK after Brexit; climate change and tax havens.

They also had the opportunity to meet and ask questions of Dan Dalton, MEP. Several Derby Grammar School students impressed by taking part in the foreign language debate in French, Spanish, German and Latin.
