A Derby Grammar School student who is a prolific sportsman has achieved excellent results in his GCSE exams and is now preparing for Sixth Form.

Toby Ganley plays cricket and hockey for Derbyshire as well as turning out for Burton Men’s Hockey Club and Dunstall Cricket Club and representing his school.

The 16-year-old trains five times a week with Burton and once every two weeks for Derbyshire Hockey. In cricket, the teenager, who is a wicket-keeper and a batsman, trains once a week and plays on Saturdays and Sundays.

Fortunately for Toby, of Tutbury, the hockey season ends as the cricket season begins.

He said: “I had to cut down a bit on the amount I was playing during Year 11 with my exams coming up.

I was a bit nervous this morning and had to skip breakfast, but I’m pleased with my results. I’m staying on for Sixth Form and ultimately I’d like to study something to do with sports science or sports coaching at university.”

Toby will be studying Geography, PE and Biology at A Level.
