The first House competition of the new academic year saw Junior and Senior School competing in
Tug of War and Cross Country this morning at Rykneld Sports Centre, Derby Grammar School’s
sports venue.

All pupils, from Year 3 to 13, took part. House Captains had their work cut out, motivating and
inspiring their teams to put in every ounce of effort they could.

Parents, teachers and housemates cheered on all competitors, suitably fed and watered by the PTA
who provided endless drinks and bacon rolls all morning.

Bemrose won Junior School Cross Country, and Blackton won the Senior School competition. In Tug
of War, Derby won the Juniors competition and Bemrose won in Senior School.

Attending her first House competition, Derby Grammar School’s new Head, Dr Ruth Norris, said:
“This has been a wonderful introduction to House competitions. What a great morning, the sun is
shining, everyone has had fun and it’s been fantastic to meet so many parents – it’s a perfect start to
the year.”
