Derby Grammar School is delighted to announce its new Sixth Form Centre, five new A Levels and an extensive range of sixth form scholarships and bursaries for pupils starting in September 2019.
As a school with such a strong academic reputation our Sixth Form is our flagship, serving to inspire younger pupils and to honour our commitment to launch our young men and women out into the big wide world.
From September 2019 our Sixth Form Centre will be located on the ground floor of Rykneld Hall in a room that was traditionally the hall’s ballroom. Steeped in tradition, with wood paneling and floor to ceiling windows which bathe the room in light, the area will offer specific workspace and IT access, as well as an integrated social space. It will also incorporate the careers and higher education zone.
It is a perfect combination of a dedicated space for Sixth Formers to study an A Level curriculum for the 21st century.
Alongside the new Sixth Form Centre are six new qualifications being added to the curriculum. A Levels in Business Studies, Computer Science, Drama and Theatre, Politics and Psychology, as well as the Extended Project Qualification, will all be available to students starting in September 2019. This brings our full range of A Level subjects to 27, plus the EPQ. A wider range than many other sixth forms in the local area.
And that’s not all. To celebrate the new location and additions to the curriculum are a new range of scholarships specifically for Sixth Form students. In recognition of academic excellence we award Sixth Form Academic Scholarships to those who achieve excellent results across all of their GCSEs, and for those that excel in the STEM subjects we offer STEM Scholarships to those who demonstrate excellence in DT, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Computer Science or Maths.
As well as academic excellence we encourage talent and reward hard work. The Achievement Scholarships recognise the hard work students put in to achieving their GCSE results, and is for those who perform above and beyond expectations. And the All-Rounder Scholarships recognise academic talent alongside contribution to school life in other areas such as sport, music, drama or other extra-curricular activities.
Enrichment activities are an important part of school life and as such we now offer scholarships in drama as well as sports and music.
Karen Stebbings, Head of Sixth Form at Derby Grammar School said: “Our Sixth Form now offers girls and boys a vibrant environment and an even more exciting curriculum.
With the new range of scholarships which reward talent wherever it lies, and our means-tested bursary scheme which includes bursaries of up to 100% for Sixth Formers, we are excited to be able to open our doors to even more students.”
