We’re delighted to be once again supporting YMCA Derbyshire in their appeal to create shoeboxes filled with items for the residents to receive on Christmas Day.
Many of the residents find themselves homeless through personal circumstances that were out of their control and a lot of them are not much older than our own Sixth Form students.
We received some heartwarming responses last year, and it was clear that the christmas boxes were often the only present some residents received. They were very grateful for the generous contributions from our pupils and their families.
It was quite amazing that some residents chose to help us in return, by baking cakes and selling them at Derby train station. They donated £200 to our Tanzania Project.
This year we are aiming to create 100 christmas boxes, of which one third will be for females and two thirds will be for males.
We are asking for donations of empty shoeboxes in which to collect the gifts, any of the items listed below, or alternatively a wrapped shoebox filled with the following:
- Shower gel/soap
- Shaving foam
- Female hygiene items
- Scarf (preferably thermal)
- Pen & notepad
- Torch (wind up)
- Hot chocolate sachets
- Playing cards/small games, etc.
Everyday items for personal hygiene are always welcome and the small toys and games are gratefully received as something more personal.
If you able to help, please bring your donations in to School by Monday 10th December. Many thanks in advance for your generous contributions and time, to make someone’s Christmas a little more bearable.
