Derby Grammar School began its Christmas festivities this week with the Junior School House Carols Competition.
An annual event, the Junior School boys came together in their four Houses of Atkinson, Blackton, Bemrose and Derby to compete for House points.
We began with Blackton’s rendition of Rockin Robin. It’s never easy being first on stage but Blackton delivered a polished performance with lots going on and fabulous props and outfits, including a Christmas dinner complete with knife and fork!
This was followed by Derby’s personal and very heartfelt performance of All I Want For Christmas Is You which was accompanied by photos of the boys and messages to their families in the audience.
Atkinson brought a modern twist to the carol competition with the rap piece Santa Is Da Man. There was lots of energy and enthusiasm throughout, as well as attitude and character, accompanied by Santa on the drums.
And finally we had Bemrose performing Merry Christmas Everyone which was a great team effort. The judges were impressed by the coordination of the group, as well as their huge smiles throughout the performance.
The judging panel certainly had their work cut out to choose the winner. This year’s judges were Mrs Simpson (LAMDA teacher), Sam Veitch (Music Prefect) and Miss Devine (School Secretary). After lengthy deliberation the winners were announced as Blackton House.
The carol concert finished with a resounding rendition of We Wish You A Merry Christmas.
