The Joint Choral Society is looking forward to performing Karl Jenkins’ Requiem at the annual concert at Derby Cathedral on Saturday 2 March. But what is the Joint Choral Society (JCS), and how can you get involved?
The JCS comprises pupils, staff, parents and family members from Derby Grammar School and Derby High School. It was formed a number of years ago and is led by the Heads of Music at each school, Mr Temple and Mr Coley.
Do you need to be a good singer?
Not at all! We are not after professional singers. We welcome car singers, shower singers – in fact, anyone who enjoys a good sing-song and fine music. The choir is about singing for enjoyment with a group of like-minded people, and having fun whilst doing so.
The JCS rehearses every Tuesday evening from 6.45pm to 8.45pm at the Haven Christian Centre, Hollybrook Way, Littleover from 8 January to 26 February, before the performance on Saturday 2 March at Derby Cathedral.
We always welcome new faces, and look forward to seeing our ‘regulars’ return.
If you’re unsure about taking the first step, take a look at these quotes from choir members to give you a flavour of JCS:
“I joined Joint Choral for the first time last year and was a bit nervous. But right from the start I was made to feel so welcome. I enjoyed the experience so much that I’m back again this year!”
“I loved to sing as a child and always performed in school musicals, Joint Choral has given me the opportunity to sing again, and I love it”
“I didn’t think I was good enough for Joint Choral, but another parent encouraged me to give it a try last year and now I’m hooked and looking forward to performing again at the Cathedral in March”
“A great chance to sing in the Derby Cathedral”
“Rehearsals are only once a week for a few weeks and then it’s the concert. A great chance to see if you like singing in a choir without a long term commitment”
We hope to see you on Tuesday!
