The first-ever Derby Grammar Primary School assembly took place this morning, and it’s arguably the most important of the year. At this assembly the candidates for Head Boy pitch to the rest of the Primary School and explain why they should be Head Boy.
This school year Derby Grammar School has welcomed its first infant pupils as it opened new classes for Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 boys. The whole of the Primary School gathered to hear the four candidates from Year 6.
Nicholas took to the stage first and his speech was built around the phrase “never try – always do”. Tom was second and used the word Head Boy as an acronym, explaining what qualities he had for each letter – helpful, enthusiastic, available, diligent, brainwaves, observant, your friend.
Keen sportsman Alex D then delivered his speech highlighting how Primary School is his second family, before Alex K took the final slot. He explained how much he loved being part of the school and how he’s open to ideas, a good listener and how he will make sure everyone has fun.
The Primary School boys then went off to vote for their favoured candidate. The 2019-2020 Head Boy will be announced at Speech Night on Thursday evening.
