Congratulations were in order last week as our Barbershop Choir secured second place in their category at the Independent Schools Association (ISA) A Capella competition in Reading.
They performed two songs – Disney’s ‘Can You Feel The Love Tonight’ from The Lion King and ‘Take Me Home, Country Roads’ by John Denver to secure their place.
And that’s not all, Owen Walters in Year 11 won a special award for the best bass while Rohan Singh also in Year 11 was recognised for the best lead vocal.
Mr Coley said: “The pupils had a great time at the competition and sang the best I’ve ever heard them – it’s the first concert that they’ve sung without a staff member supporting the vocals. I couldn’t be more proud of the way they performed with expression and balanced their projection and blending really well.”
The award winning Sons of Pitches were judging the competition and treated everyone to a performance afterwards, in which they improvised a song based on some suggestions from the audience. Thanks to our choir, this resulted in them singing about Derby, including references to Derby County FC, well-dressings and sheep in the styles of yodelling and Bollywood!
A truly inspirational day for students and staff alike.
