Get a head start on your A Levels this June
Derby Grammar School is offering a unique opportunity to access our excellent A Level curriculum for
all students in Year 11 considering A Levels in September 2020.
From Monday 1 June, students can sign up to our ‘Access to A Level’ course that we will be delivering for
the second half of this term.
Our expert A Level subject teachers will provide materials and both written and group Microsoft Teams meeting support for a series of foundation tasks.
The advantages of starting A Levels in June are many, not least giving students the opportunity to get a head start on the curriculum, the time to adjust to the rigours of A Level study in a supportive environment and,
importantly, the opportunity to make friends with students their own age.
What we will offer
- A choice of 3 A Level subjects from a wide selection, including the sciences, economics and
- A Level subject teachers will provide activities on a weekly basis and should represent
approximately 1 to 2 hours of working time by the pupils
- Work to be provided every Monday through the Access to A Level Google Classroom
- Student’s work will be assessed on a weekly basis
- Teachers will arrange a weekly Microsoft Teams meeting with student groups
- Free UCAS support
Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) opportunities
The EPQ is an additional academic opportunity which offers students the chance to undertake an
independent research project of their own choosing. It is worth half an A Level and up to 28 UCAS
points. Universities place great value on students who have embarked on an EPQ as it evidences
independent learning skills. If your child is unsure about this qualification, please let me know as our
dedicated staff are available to offer advice.
We are offering the ‘Access to A Level’ programme free of charge to all students who have accepted
their offer with us and are joining our Sixth Form in September.
If you are still unsure about whether DGS is the right choice for A Level for your child, then why not take advantage of the special rate of £300 for the summer course? If, at the end of the term, you decide that DGS is where your child would like to study A Levels and you accept an offer of a place, then the £300 will be credited to the first term’s fees.
