Normally during Activities Week, our year 10 pupils would be doing their work experience and year 9 would have a morning preparing to look for a work experience placement over the summer. However – this year things are different and physical work experience isn’t possible, although some of the students have carried out virtual work experience.

We can’t be sure yet if next year will be different for the current year 9, but whatever happens we will be working with them to prepare for the world of work. As well as C.V. writing, we’ll look at the correct way to approach potential employers on the telephone (many students rarely speak on the telephone now) and how to conduct yourself at an interview. Increasingly employers are asking to interview students, even for work experience, and in some instances those interviews are online so there are a whole host of things to be aware of. I don’t know when we will return to normal for Work Experience placements, but whenever we do DGS pupils will be ready.

Today’s link is the Parents Guide to virtual work experience if you are interested in finding out more about what’s available.

As always, don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions or enquiries.
