A note from Caroline Euston, Chair of the PTA
As I write this note, the sun is shining, and I can’t help but wonder if summer is already here. With that in mind I thought I’d take this opportunity to tell you about this year’s Summer Fete, being held as usual on the beautiful school grounds of Rykneld Hall on the evening of Friday 15 June.
It is one of our most important fundraising events. To assist us with our fundraising efforts we are holding a Summer Raffle with a fantastic selection of prizes on offer. We welcome raffle prizes that you may wish to donate – contact firstname.lastname@example.org
For parents at the school, raffle tickets will be coming home with your son/daughter. Please return all monies and/or unwanted tickets back to school with completed stubs by Monday 11 June. Extra raffle tickets are available from reception. The raffle will be drawn on the evening of Saturday 30 June during the Summer Ball. Details of all winners will be published during w/c 2 July.
There will be a variety of local stalls as well as fantastic fundraising stalls run by the pupils. We are welcoming back Bugs ‘n’ Bones with their collection of exotic animals, which is always a popular attraction. It seems that bouncing is still the in-thing, not only do we have a small bouncy castle for the little ones, there will also be an inflatable assault course for older ones (not too old though!!)
Our wonderful music department and talented pupils will be entertaining us throughout the afternoon with live music. Once again, we welcome Tip Toes School of Dance performing their fantastic show routines. The PTA will be working hard to quench your thirst at the PTA bar. Who can resist an ice-cold Pimms on a lovely sunny day! Don’t worry about what to get for dinner, our BBQ will keep you and the family fed throughout the night with hot dogs and burgers, including vegetarian options. And for pudding? Made to order crepes will be on sale courtesy of I Love Crepes, who have returned to Derby Grammar School having enjoyed being part of our Food Fayre in March. For those with a sweet tooth, the PTA refreshment stall will be serving tea and coffee and with a little help from yourselves, cakes too!
We welcome cake donations from you to so that we can sell them on the day – so dust off your rolling pin* and bring cake donations into school before midday on Friday 15 June. (*or, like I do, buy them ?)
I hope you agree there will be something for everyone. The Summer Fete is one of my favourite events of the year. In fact, it’s where we first decided Derby Grammar School was the right school for George prior to him joining Y3. Such a great atmosphere and a huge sense of togetherness which helps make this a very special event.
Get involved: If you have spare time to help during the afternoon of the fete, please email me at email@example.com – the more helpers we have, the more money we can raise.
