At Derby Grammar School, we believe in the holistic education of the child and that includes time spent outside learning in the forest school.
We are fortunate to have wonderful grounds that lend themselves to outdoor activities, giving the primary school boys exposure to the natural world. The philosophy of forest school is embedded in the curriculum by our fully trained and experienced forest school leader, Mrs Hill The boys are actively encouraged to assess risks for themselves during the activities and play they are engaged in.
As well as learning practical skills such as knot tying, whittling and fire making, they also learn soft skills such as effective communication, increased resilience and confidence whilst developing their imagination and curiosity.
Mrs Hill is an Accredited Level 3 Practitioner in Forest School.
