Derby Grammar School is looking to appoint a passionate Key stage 1 teacher. Starting in January 2025 or sooner you will join an excellent teaching team. Derby Grammar School is co-educational independent school that has provided excellent schooling to pupils from Derby and across the County. Our school setting dates back to the 18th century and is surrounded by extensive grounds.

Established in 1995, Derby Grammar School is a leading independent school for children aged between 4 and 18. Located in the Derbyshire suburbs of Littleover our secluded grounds provide the perfect setting for a first-class educational experience.

We are looking to appoint a Key Stage 1 teacher who will promote a love of learning and stimulate intellectual curiosity amongst pupils at Derby Grammar School through inspirational teaching and guidance, ensuring each pupil is supported to achieve his or her potential.

The main teaching role will be to be the class teacher for Year 1 and Year 2. The ability to offer co-curricular activities or Primary School subject leadership would be an advantage. A full Job description is available on request.

We are looking to appoint a Librarian with a passion for literature who will promote a culture of reading amongst pupils at Derby Grammar School, ensuring each pupil is supported to broaden his or her cultural capital and achieve academic excellence. Starting in September 2024 you will be based in our stunning, newly refurbished library.

Derby Grammar School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

The post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. The School is therefore permitted to ask shortlisted applicants to declare all convictions and cautions on a self-declaration form in advance of attending an interview (including those which are "spent" unless they are "protected" under the Disclosure and Barring Service(“DBS”) filtering rules) in order to assess their suitability to work with children.

The School may carry out online searches on shortlisted applicants, including social media accounts, as part of their application.

Prior to employment commencing, successful applicants will be required to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers. 

Successful applicants will also be required to produce evidence of qualifications, identity, and the right to work in the UK. Two references will be taken up, one of which will be with the most recent employer. They will also be required to complete our Health Questionnaire.
